Cook

Full-time position within the food service team. You prepare the daily menus from the established recipe sheets, adapt recipes and textures to residents’ specific diets and rigorously apply MAPAQ hygiene and food safety standards.

Résidence Unique Sherbrooke is looking for a cook to join its food service team. You prepare flavourful meals every day, adapted to our residents’ needs, in a kitchen where quality and food safety go hand in hand.

As a cook, you will have the opportunity to:

Food preparation and service

  • Prepare and cook the daily menus — starters, main courses, sides and desserts — following the established recipe sheets.

  • Adapt recipes and textures to residents’ specific diets: low-sodium, diabetic, minced, puréed and modified textures.

  • Take part in menu planning and in the creation of new recipes.

  • Ensure attractive plating and maintain proper food temperatures throughout service.

  • Take an active part in meal service during peak periods.

Food safety and sanitation

  • Rigorously apply MAPAQ hygiene and food safety standards.

  • Keep the kitchen, equipment and work areas orderly, clean and disinfected.

  • Monitor and record refrigerator and freezer temperatures.

  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and report any malfunction.

Inventory and supplies

  • Receive deliveries, verify that orders match what was ordered and ensure stock rotation.

  • Contribute to inventory management in order to reduce food waste.

  • Store food properly in the appropriate storage areas.

Teamwork and contact with residents

  • Work closely with the kitchen team, the dining room staff and the care team.

  • Show empathy, patience and courtesy in every direct or indirect interaction with residents.

Requirements

Education

  • Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS) in institutional food service (cuisine d’établissement) or equivalent.

Certification

  • Food hygiene and sanitation certificate (food handler or food service manager).

Experience

  • One to two years of kitchen experience. Experience in an institutional setting, an RPA or a CHSLD is a strong asset.

Skills

  • Works quickly and efficiently.

  • Good physical condition: able to stand for long periods and lift loads.
